Bass Management is an essential, and yet often overlooked, link in the DVD/surround sound reproduction and post production chain. Most professional monitors do not handle the extreme low frequencies properly, rolling off around 40Hz instead of 20Hz. With a subwoofer, the system can properly reproduce the low frequencies.
Without bass management, signals under 40Hz are being sent to the main speakers (L,R,C,RS,LS), and so the low frequencies are often lost or played back at a lower than expected level.
Bass Management solves this problem by routing all frequencies below a selectable frequency to the subwoofer. The bass is therefore always as powerful as it was intended to be.
